Argo Engineering Solutions Ltd is a small engineering consultancy on the edge of the New Forest, close to Southampton and the Solent. We specialise in lightweight structures in composites, aluminium and high strength steels and unusually we are fully material agnostic. We have the skills to offer structural engineering packages in the most appropriate materials and have no affiliations to any materials suppliers.
We have a broad range of experience and pride ourselves in the delivery of buildable, practical structural solutions. Our focus is on the marine industry (commercial vessels, marine structures and yachts) with complimentary skills where this industry overlaps with the subsea, renewables, defence and oil & gas markets.
We can bring our knowledge into multi-disciplinary teams and help to make projects a success. We are happy to provide initial feasibility studies, design of individual components or whole structures. We can undertake design assessments, rigorous structural analysis (using a suite of the latest tools) or owner’s representative / on-going support roles.
I am a structural engineer with more than twenty years’ experience, specialising in structural design, analysis and working in a special projects environment. I ran the structural engineering department within a major Naval Architecture consultancy for ten years before moving to help a large composite manufacturer become the country’s leading large composite structures company.
I have recently started Argo Engineering Solutions Ltd to offer my experience in design and utilisation of lightweight materials, including composites, aluminium and higher grade steels to the wider market.
I have a wealth of experience communicating at all levels from boardroom to the shop floor. I have successfully run focused design teams for many years.
I am a Design Engineer at Argo Engineering with 5+ years’ experience working a range of roles specialised around the marine sector. I am typically involved in one off projects which specialise in being ‘different’ and challenging what has gone before. Projects of this nature typically push the engineering or at least the engineering team to the limit.
This has culminated in me working for one of the UK leading super yacht and commercial vessel Naval Architecture consultancies and a composite manufacturer who specialise in designing and building bespoke, large, free standing super yacht masts from advanced materials.
The combination of the companies and projects I have been involved in have given me a strong foundation in engineering, both in the design office and on the shop floor.
I am a design engineer with a background in Naval Architecture; masters in MSc Maritime Engineering Science at the University of Southampton and a BEng in Yacht and Power craft Design at Solent University. I’ve previously worked in ship operations and repair management with an offshore company which charters a fleet of offshore support vessels that provide services to the oil and gas industry in Trinidad and Tobago.
My experience in the commercial shipping world has given me invaluable practical experience of the maintenance of vessels operated under class and flag state regulations. This included project management, dry dockings and structural and mechanical repair management.
A well-rounded involvement of both practical and academic aspects of the maritime sector have provided me with a versatile skillset to better solve engineering problems.
